Graph of light output from 2 Argon.Neon Tubes

These curves show the relative optical output of my 25 mm and 10 mm diameter 90/10% Argon/Neon tubes. The lower line represents the 25 mm tube, and the upper line represents the 10 mm tube. The curves track fairly well, indicating that increasing the power density in the tube does not cause a loss of conversion efficiency; that is, dumping a lot of RF power into a small diameter tube gives as much, or more, light output as does putting the same amount of RF power into a larger diameter tube. Note that for low RF power levels, between 25 and 100 watts, the smaller diameter tube produces considerably more light output than does a large diameter tube.
