Here is a front view of the completely assembled tube enclosure. It measures 36" long by 7" deep and 10" high. Visible through the front RF screen is the tube, which is supported on PVC pipe standoffs. The balun coil may be seen in the lower center. In front of the balun is the trigger coil (mounted horizontally) which is used to ensure that the discharge in the tube starts immediately upon application of the RF power to the tube. The spiral wires surrounding the tube are connected to the balun output leads, and they serve to transfer the RF energy from the balun to the gas inside the tube. Not readily visible are the wires from the trigger coil which connect directly to the electrodes of the tube. Note the many screws used to ensure a good electrical connection between the hardware cloth used for the front screen and the angle aluminum sections used for the outer screen frame. |
